A Month of Sundays, Week 1: The Baseline

Hey, I’m finally getting around to starting my Month of Sundays project (thanks for the invite, Cindi). Part of me is still wondering exactly why I decided to do this. I’ve never been entirely comfortable taking pictures of people - I always feel like I’m intruding, somehow - and I have a serious dislike of getting my own picture taken. So why the hell have I committed to posting one self-portrait a week for the next 30 weeks?

Well, I’m making it a point to put some real effort into improving my photography skills this year, and since taking pictures of people is one of my bigger stumbling blocks, I figure this may be a good way to get me over that, and I hope that the next 30 weeks will show improvement.

For week one, I wanted a baseline shot, so I grabbed my camera, pointed it at myself, attempted to smile into the lens, and pressed the shutter. Here’s the result.

(Oh, and for friends and family who are wondering what this "Month of Sundays" thing is, look here: www.flickr.com/groups/monthofsundays/ )
