And then the Miracle Occurred….

For the first time that I’ve seen since March, it’s raining in Tucson.
And that’s a very good thing.
Musings on library school, books, technology, and other things by a library school student, computer geek and bibliophile.

The second day of the seminar provided an interesting mix of presentations. We got to hear about how Oxford’s libraries are updating themselves for the 21st century, how to design a good library building, and got a crash course in how to use the somewhat antiquated electronic catalog for the Oxford University libraries.
Oxford Libraries in [...]

Hello all,
In preparation for posting more about the Oxford library seminar, I’m reposting my review of the first full day, newly edited and now with pictures!

Like the first day of any class, the first full day of the seminar was mainly one of introductions. We introduced ourselves, and we also [...]

I just realized, I forgot to post this. I’ve got some new photos up of my England trip on Flickr and they can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/adventuresinlibrarianship/sets/72157600222260041/
I think these are all the photos I took while I was at the seminar, and additional photos of my vacation will be added to the same photo set [...]

It’s come to my attention that there’s a security update available for my blogging software, and although updates are pretty easy to manage, I don’t want to post anything else until after I’ve updated the software (which I plan to do tomorrow). If everything goes well, I’ll be back on Thursday.
If everything doesn’t go well [...]

Just a short post to let everyone know that I’ve made it home in one piece, and so has my luggage, and my home was still in one piece when I got back. These are all good things.
I’m now slowly slipping back into my usual (and rather mundane) routine. I expect to have a few [...]

My trip to England is rapidly coming to a close. I’m back in Oxford for the night and then I catch an early morning coach tomorrow back to Gatwick airport for my flight home.
I suppose I could spend my afternoon in Oxford rushing around to see all the stuff I didn’t have a chance to [...]

Several people I’ve talked to have, when I mentioned that I was planning on visiting Stonehenge and Avebury, remarked that Avebury is a much better site to visit than Stonehenge. And having now visited it, I can say that they are correct.
Avebury is a much larger site than Stonehenge (so large in fact, that they’ve [...]

As I mentioned yesterday, since I’m finally staying somewhere with broadband, I’m also finally managing to get my photos uploaded to the web. Rather than take up space with them on my web server, I’m using the Flickr photo service, but I’m making these photos public so nobody will have to register to see them.
You [...]

Today I saw the first of the two megalithic monuments I came to Salisbury to see, Stonehenge. Tomorrow I’m off to see the less-well-known (but larger, and if most of the people I’ve talked to can be believed, more interesting) Avebury.
Being both an avid amateur astronomer and being interested in things archeological, Stonehenge has been [...]
